Register of Foreign Ownership of Australian Assets – Report of registrations as at 30 June 2024

The Register of Foreign Ownership of Australian Assets (the Register), established on 1 July 2023, provides greater transparency about the level of foreign ownership of Australian assets.

The Register, administered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), amalgamated and replaced the existing registers of foreign ownership of agricultural and residential land and water entitlements.

The Register also expanded the assets to be registered. It includes registrations of the asset types:

  • agricultural land
  • business interests
  • commercial land
  • mining or production tenements and exploration tenements
  • residential land
  • water interests.

The first Register report, detailing registered interests on 30 June 2024, has been published on the ATO’s website. All subsequent annual reports will continue to be published on the ATO’s website.

Aggregated data, including for prior years where available, is published on data.gov.au.
