Changes to foreign investment fee payments from 19 September 2026

Date

From 19 September 2026, Treasury will no longer accept credit or debit card payments for foreign investment fees. This change applies to all foreign investment fee payments made on or after that date. Credit and debit card payment options will be removed from the Foreign Investment Portal from 19 September 2026.

This change follows reforms by the Reserve Bank of Australia to end surcharging on debit and credit card payments, and Treasury’s subsequent review of payment arrangements for foreign investment fees.

Investors and agents should use an alternative payment method, such as BPAY, direct deposit or international bank transfer, to pay foreign investment fees.

Payment instructions and account details are included in the payment details communication issued for each submission through the Foreign Investment Portal.
